On August 10, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act: A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). The Bryan-College Station MPO received planning funds over a six year period while approximately $25 million (in two separate grants) for rail and $7.5 million for the widening of State Highway 21 was earmarked for the Planning Area.
