First Friday Art Trail at the Buddy Holly Center

On the first Friday of May, the Buddy Holly Center invites the community to participate in Lubbock’s First Friday Art Trail, an event held on the first Friday of every month in venues around the city. Galleries, restaurants, and businesses open FREE of charge to display local and regional visual and performing art. A free trolley service to and from venues will be offered.

The First Friday Art Trail works to promote art and outreach within the community of Lubbock by providing an opportunity to enjoy fine art, entertainment and refreshments. On May 3, 2013 the Center will be open from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. for patrons to view its exhibits. There will be FREE admission and refreshments. A cash bar will also be provided.

Featured in the Fine Art Gallery the Buddy Holly Center will be hosting the annual spring exhibition of the West Texas Watercolor Society. Initially organized in 1962 and formally chartered by the State of Texas in 1973, the Society was instituted for the purpose of promoting the highest aesthetic standards in the art of watercolor painting. Artists from across the region will present their creations in a wide range of watercolor styles and methods.

Displayed in the Texas Musicians Hall of Fame Gallery Texas Tech University School of Art MFA candidate Jillian Cooper will hold her final exhibition before graduating entitled Dissecting Temperament. The exhibition will display a collection of works in metals and jewelry in partial fulfillment of her degree requirements.
