On the first Friday of July, the Buddy Holly Center invites the community to participate in Lubbock’s First Friday Art Trail, an event held on the first Friday of every month in venues around the city. Galleries, restaurants and businesses open FREE of charge to display local and regional visual and performing art. A free trolley service to and from venues will be offered.
The First Friday Art Trail works to promote art and outreach within the community of Lubbock by providing an opportunity to enjoy fine art, entertainment and refreshments. On Friday, July 5, 2013 the Buddy Holly Center will be open from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. for patrons to view its exhibits. There will be FREE admission and refreshments. A cash bar will also be provided. For more information on the First Friday Art Trail visit www.ffat.org.
Displayed in the Fine Arts Gallery will be Illuminance, a juried exhibition, featuring photographic work. This year's juror is Diana Dopson from Austin, TX. Her work explores the artistic promise of in-between places: navigating a borderland, standing where land and water meet, fathoming twilight or unexpectedly sensing wilderness in the familiar.
Displayed in the Foyer Gallery Victor Mosqueda will show a visual history of Lubbock music through his portraits of musicians. This will be the third installment of Mosqueda's photographs and will feature images of musicians who have or will be performing at the Buddy Holly Center's 2013 Summer Showcase Concert Series.
