On the first Friday of September, the Buddy Holly Center invites the community to participate in Lubbock’s First Friday Art Trail and Buddy Holly Center’s 15th Anniversary Celebration. The First Friday Art Trail is an event held on the first Friday of every month in venues around the city. Galleries, restaurants and businesses open FREE of charge to display local and regional visual and performing art. The Buddy Holly Center’s 15th Anniversary Celebration commemorates the opening of the Buddy Holly Center in 1999.
On Friday, September 5, 2014 the Buddy Holly Center will open from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. for patrons to view its exhibits and enjoy various activities throughout the evening. There will be FREE admission and refreshments. A cash bar will also be provided.
Displayed in the Fine Arts Gallery will be the exhibition, Art in Common, featuring the works of Allison Black and Ippy Greer, Professors of Art at South Plains College, and of Allison's children Sean, Patrick and Lauren Scully. Art in Common showcases a variety of art pieces including photography, sculpture, drawings, metal work, jewelry and mixed media installations. In the Foyer Gallery will be David Leake: Impressions of Musicians. The exhibition will feature portraits of locally and nationally renowned musicians.
During the First Friday Art Trail and Buddy Holly Center’s 15th Anniversary Celebration, the band Touch of Soul will be performing funk music in the Meadows Courtyard from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., and “Buddy Holly Glasses,” a craft activity, will be in the Education Space for all ages to enjoy.
