Hazardous Materials Response Team

The Lubbock Fire Department’s Hazardous Materials Response Team is based out of stations #13 and #17.  All 45 members of the team (15 per shift) are certified as Hazardous Materials Technicians by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.  In addition to their normal firefighting duties, the team responds to chemical releases within the City of Lubbock and provides mutual aid to the cities of Abernathy, Shallowater, Slaton, and Wolfforth when requested.

The team is equipped to mitigate chemical releases involving highway and railroad tank cars, bulk storage facilities, research and laboratory facilities, and many other situations.  They have received special training in responding to illicit drug laboratories and weapons of mass destruction incidents.
