Throughout Dyan's thirty year career, she has developed her own impressionistic style of painting, recognizable by her lively brushwork and bright, vivid colors. A member of the Artists of Texas and a Signature Member of West Texas Watercolor Society, Dyan has won numerous awards throughout her career and her paintings are in private and corporate collections throughout the U.S. and internationally.
Dyan’s workshops are for beginners, intermediate and advanced painters. She prefers to teach in a relaxed atmosphere as she shares her style and technique of painting. Students learn how to create energy in their paintings, preserve the whites of their paper, obtain strong values, and how to use expressive, fresh, clean brushstrokes while not being overworked.
Dyan goes over how to mix transparent watercolors to create vibrancy, how to get in and get out, and keep the paintings looking spontaneous and fresh. She will start a painting and then let the students “catch up” with plenty of individual instruction. She feels this helps the student not have that “lost” feeling after watching an instructor complete a 2-hour demo and then say “ok, now it’s your turn.” If they prefer, students can bring their own photos to work from.
