Hunters MUST submit a copy of their driver’s license, hunting license and fill out and sign a liability release form before purchasing a Permit, and report ALL harvest information. All hunters born after 9-2-1971 must have proof of a Hunter Education Training Course Certificate on their person while hunting; OR possess a HE Deferral.
No road baiting or battery powered feeders are allowed for ANY hunt. Purchase of Permit does not guarantee the harvest of game.
DOVE AND QUAIL HUNTS
Hunters may purchase permits for the dates listed on a "first-come, first-served" basis. Permits MUST be purchased by WEDNESDAY at 3 p.m. BEFORE the weekend that you plan to hunt. Call the office (806) 775-2602 to make an appointment to purchase the Permit, OR
you may fax all of the documents required to (806) 775-2686.
In order to obtain a permit and reserve space, hunters must fax or bring the following items:
Hunters registering by fax must include copies of their Driver's License and Hunting License with their hunt application.
- driver’s license to indicate residency,
- Current year's hunting license complete with stamps (migratory game bird stamp and HIP certificate is required to hunt any legal dove, and an upland game bird stamp is required to hunt quail),
- and cash, check or credit card (MasterCard or Visa).
There will be no refund for permits not subsequently used, and no date substitution due to adverse weather conditions.
Annual dove and quail bag/possession limits will conform to those established by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department annually for Kent and Garza County. NO baiting will be allowed before or during dove hunts.
DEER HUNTS - ARCHERY & RIFLE
Be advised - any harvested deer (even an unbranched antlered buck) counts against your deer tag total.
Deer hunters may be included in RANDOM DRAWINGS for the available hunts as shown on the schedule. An archery stamp on your Hunting License is required to archery hunt. Hunting parties must sign up together; specify deer hunt of your selection - only ONE entry per person or hunting party, per hunt.
Drawing for the archery deer hunts will take place on September 12th; winners will be notified by phone or email.
Archery permits must be purchased by September 19th to reserve space; cancellations after September 23rd will result in loss of any paid fees. Archery hunters who have purchased a WT unbranched antlered/WT antlerless/turkey archery permit (Oct. 21-23) may harvest no more than two (2) WT antlerless, and one (1) WT unbranched antlered and one (1)either-sex Rio Grande turkey and unlimited feral hog. These permits will be drawn on Oct. 3rd and must be purchased by Oct. 10th to reserve space; cancellation after Oct. 17th will result in loss of fees. Participants for this hunt must have an archery stamp and an upland game bird stamp for turkey harvest on their hunting license. (This hunt may be subject to cancellation if no more than 5 people enter the hunt.)
Drawing for the rifle deer hunts begin on October 17th, with White Tail Antlered and Antlerless draws. (Refer to the Deer Hunt Entry Form for specific draw and purchase-by dates for each hunt.)
Permits must be purchased by October 24th to reserve space; cancellation after October 31st will result in the loss of any paid fee. WT antlerless hunters may take no more than two (2) per hunter. Mule deer antlered hunt draw is November 7th, purchase permits by November 14th to reserve space; cancellation after November 21st will result in the loss of any paid fee. Mule deer hunters may take one (1) antlered mule deer (antlerless mule deer harvest is illegal
). Rifle hunters may also take unlimited feral hog during their deer hunt. There will be no refund of permits not subsequently used, and no date substitutions due to adverse weather conditions. Hunters may use their own tree stand or blind, and bring bait of their selection. Hunters must remove blinds/stands from City property immediately after their hunt is ended. NO BATTERY POWERED FEEDERS or ROAD BAITING ALLOWED.
Spring gobbler (or bearded hen) turkey hunts are available by RANDOM DRAWING. Hunting parties must sign up together; specify the hunt date of your choice – only ONE entry per person or hunting party, per hunt. Turkey hunters may take one (1) male (or bearded hen) turkey and unlimited feral hog during these hunts. Drawing for the turkey hunts will take place on March 13th;
permits must be purchased by March 20th to reserve space. Cancellation after March 27th will result in the loss of any paid fees. There will be no refund of permits not subsequently used, and no date substitutions due to adverse weather conditions. Turkey hunters may be assigned a specific area from which they may harvest their turkeys. An upland game bird stamp is required to hunt turkeys.
FERAL HOG HUNTS
Permits MUST be purchased by Wednesday at 3 pm before the weekend that you plan to hunt. Call the office (806) 775-2602 to make an appointment to purchase the permit, OR
fax all required documents to (806) 775-2686. Hunters may be assigned specific hunt areas. Hunt parties may choose their hunt area based upon which party submits complete paperwork FIRST for the same hunt day.
