Mowing Delays

Start Date: July 24, 2017, 3:30 PM
End Date: August 06, 2017, 4:30 PM
Due to recent rains and other issues, the mowing of our parks has been delayed.  Here are some of the things that can impact our mowing schedules:  The City applies fertilizer to the parks in late spring.  This, accompanied by much-welcomed recent rains, has caused the grass in the parks to grow very rapidly.  In turn, mowing contractors have been asked to redirect their schedules to mow various parks for special events.  All of these factors cause delays to the regular mowing schedule.  Here is what the City is doing to alleviate the tall grass in our parks:

1) Staff has allowed contractors to raise their mowing height to 2.5” to facilitate faster mowing.  This is a temporary measure until contractors are caught up.
2) City staff is supplementing contract mowing temporarily.
3) Contractors are being allowed to mow after hours and on weekends in an effort to catch up with their regular mowing schedules.

These measures should help the mowing contractors get back on schedule as quickly as possible.  In addition, Vector Control Services staff are spraying for mosquitoes throughout the city. Thanks for your understanding and patience!
